The term Hot Desking is quoted by work place researchers as deriving from a term first coined by the US Navy - hot racking. This was the practice where the sailors on different shifts would share bunks. In the financial boom of the late 1980s when office rental costs and land prices in major financial centres went through the roof, the phrase - Hot Desking, became common place where workers shared desk space or terminals. Reduction in empty rates relief – a blow to landlords and owners of commercial property.

This week has seen a further increase in the tax burden on landlords and Small businesses who own commercial property.  In a further drive to raise revenue by central government, the threshold at which an empty property is liable for full rates has dropped from £18,000 to £2600. This effectively means that many owners of  commercial properties will become liable for huge payments even if their properties are generating a nil income. Richard Priestley, MD of Exeid the boutique commercial property consultancy said "this change is nuts. It would be like taxing PAYE and NI to an employee who was out of work with no income. Parking Leicester avoids the work place parking Levy

PARKING LEICESTER - Contract parking in Leicester can be a sore subject but surprisingly Leicester is much better serviced than its near neighbour and rival, Nottingham  in this regard. Unlike in Nottingham, businesses and employees in Leicester are not likely to be squeezed by the taxman via the Work Place Parking Levy,  well not for the moment that is. On the other hand, we won’t benefit from the fantastic tram network that is developing in Nottingham and which is to be the main beneficiary of the millions raised by the new tax. Stanford House is a Georgian  Gem in the heart of Nottingham only 60 seconds stroll from Marks and Spencer’s and the Broadmarsh, Jamies Italian Nottingham, Paul Smith and Carluccio’s are also near by. It has recently undergone a sensitive restoration with the original aim of becoming the Harrods of Nottingham. Nottingham now has two new MPs and two new constituency offices.  Exeid.com, the boutique property services consultancy, has been working with Lilian Greenwood and Chris Leslie to find them a new location for their constituency offices.
